Heinrich Rudolf Hertz's 155th Birthday

The doodle placed on Google's homepage today is a colourful oscillating wave. It serves to mark the birthday of Heinrich Rudolf Hertz.

Heinrich Rudolf Hertz was a German physicist who clarified and expanded the electromagnetic theory of light that had been put forth by James Clerk Maxwell. He was the first to satisfactorily demonstrate the existence of electromagnetic waves by building an apparatus to produce and detect radio waves. Due to his achievements, the SI unit of frequency, hertz, is named after him.

Happy Valentine's Day

Today is the 14th February 2012, Valentine's Day. To celebrate this special day, Google has placed an animated clip playing the song performed by Tony Bennett, "Cold, Cold Heart" on its home page.

To all those lovebirds out there, Happy Valentine's Day. To those that are still single, keep on searching for your other half. You'll find it eventually as long as you keep searching.
