Unsubscribing from Digi's Mobile Internet Daily 100 MB

Today, my father told me that he had received some weird smses for the past few days. Upon checking the smses, I realized that he had somehow accidentally signed on to the Mobile Internet Daily 100 MB plan and that it had been deducting RM 3 daily ever since signing on.

He told me that he must have accidentally done so while trying to do a talktime transfer. But I'm curious as to how he could have done so, since pressing *116# and *128# are totally different keys altogether.

Anyway, this plan is pretty insane in my opinion since it just automatically renews your subscription everyday and conveniently deducts the money from your prepaid card. So if you are a handphone/internet illiterate like my father, you wouldn't have known about it and how it charges you every single day even though you don't use the service. (Let alone how to "unsubscribe".)

What's more, the FAQ section provided on Digi's website doesn't state "clearly" how to terminate the subscription. It just says the following:

Q19How can I terminate my subscription to Mobile Internet Daily 100MB?
A19Dial *116# and Press 2 to Confirm your unsubscription.

But if you had followed the instruction to the letter, you would have instead subscribed yourself to the Weekly 300MB (RM15) package instead because this plan is numbered 2 in the menu after calling *116#. (There simply wasn't any "unsubscribe" option in the menu at that stage.)

To actually unsubscribe from the Daily 100MB plan, you should select back the same plan by pressing 1 instead (after calling *116#). From then on, there would be an option for you to unsubscribe in the menu. Just follow through with it.

If you ask me, its just plain weird that they make it "sooooo" easy to sign onto the plan and yet so "counter-intuitive" to terminate it. What's more, its "sooooo" user-friendly and "kind" that they would "help" you renew the plan without even asking you about it.

Anyway, I hope that this post would help you in unsubscribing from the service if you or your parents have accidentally subscribed to it.

    1. Your welcome. Sorry to hear that they've already taken RM30 away.

In my father's case, the damage done was lesser and apparently from what he said, there was an RM3 refund for using the subscription.

So my speculation is that he must have received an "Advertisement SMS" (the one that tells you about this offer to try the service for one day and get your money refunded afterwards) and somehow "signed" on via that sms. And funnily, they just conveniently renew your subscription thereafter even though its supposed to be a trial.

  10. Thanks for the info, it already suck me RM15 even I never use a single Mb. Maxis Hotlink is better :
    1. it really count 24 hours from the time you subscribe.
    2. it did not "auto-continue" subscribe everyday.
    3. it is cheaper - RM1 for 50Mb daily.

    1. Hi,

I went and read your thread posted on forum lowyat. From what I can tell, there's a good chance that your not subscribed to the daily 150MB plan but rather one of the higher costs one (might be the 450MB, 600MB, 2GB or 5GB).

The thing is you have to select back the same plan that you subscribed to in order to find the unsubscribe option.

So my suggestion is that you can try the 450MB first to see if you can find the unsubscribe option there...if you do not then try the next one, 600MB and so on and so forth until you find it. Since I don't know which plan you might have subscribed to.

Good Luck. I hope it helps.

  20. It's ironic that customer-friendly DIGI has left us high and dry in this circumstance and we had to resort to a fellow subscriber. Thanks dude. So much for that paying-our-customers-back commercial

    1. Indeed it is...

To be honest, I had originally wrote this post partly due to the frustration I had whilst trying to find a way to unsubscribe but could not find any.

Didn't expect the post to have helped others as well.

    1. Thanks for the update on this new method of unsubscribing.

Guess they've even updated their FAQ section now to reflect the change.

  22. Ah, but even if you unsubscribe from the 30-day Monthly Internet package, you also have to remember to uncheck "Mobile Data" on your Android phone. Otherwise, you will fall back to the "Daily Internet" plan, which is capped at RM8.00 per day, but that is very expensive for a single day's usage. Worse still if something has been changed on your phone and you cannot undo the "Mobile Data" setting.

    1. Really? Man...that sucks.

Sometimes I seriously wonder....why do the phone software creators make the default settings like that. Its so easy to lose money that we're unaware of.

Maybe we should all just default back to the stone age and use phones that can just sms and call only...

    1. If it doesn't work, then that means they've changed it I guess. Its been 2 years since this post and that's enough time for anything to change. ^_^

      Try *128#.
      Then choose "3 Internet".
      And "1 My Internet Package".
The unsubscribe option should be there I think.
