Amelia Earhart, an American aviation pioneer and author. Amongst her noteworthy accomplishments include being the first woman to receive the U.S. Distinguished Flying Cross as well as being the first to fly solo across the Atlantic Ocean. Sadly, during an attempt to make a circumnavigational flight around the world, she vanished somewhere over the Pacific Ocean while heading for Howland Island.
